Klaviyo Flows: Reward notification

The emails sent in the flows below are intended to replace existing automated reward emails sent by the ReferralCandy postman service. Note: To avoid double sending these from each platform, we recommend disabling the reward emails from the Email Notifications tab here.


Pro Tip: The following Events and Event Variables can be combined with Profile Custom Properties found in this guide

Purchase referred by profile detected (reward pending email)


ReferralCandy sends an event to Klaviyo each time a purchase referred by a profile (advocate) is detected. One way to utilize this event is by sending a "reward pending" notification email to your advocate through Klaviyo.


1. Create a new flow with this trigger event: RC - Purchase referred by profile detected (This can be found under "Metric")



2. In the email editor, you can utilize the following Event Variables that are sent together with the event:

  • {{ event|lookup:'Campaign name' }}

  • {{ event.Currency }}

  • {{ event|lookup:'Purchase amount' }}



3. Here's a raw sample preview of the event variables and custom properties added to the email:

Note: It's definitely intended that you can utilize these specific “Event Variables” together with the profile's "Custom Properties" to deliver a highly customized experience to your advocates/customers.

Woohoo! Someone made a purchase of {{ event.Currency }}{{ event|lookup:'Purchase amount' }}  through your link, which counts towards your reward. You'll receive another email once the purchase is verified and the required number of purchases have been made!


You only need to refer {{ person|lookup:'RC FREN - Referred purchase needed for next reward'|default:'' }} more friends to earn your next reward!

Reward earned (reward earned email)


ReferralCandy also sends an event to Klaviyo each time we detect an advocate has earned a reward. We recommend utilizing this event by sending a "reward earned" notification email to your advocate through Klaviyo.


1. Create a new flow with this trigger event: RC - Reward earned (This can be found under "Metric")



2. In the email editor, you can utilize the following "Event Variables" that are sent together with the event:

  • {{ event|lookup:'Campaign name' }}

  • {{ event|lookup:'Date earned' }} 

  • {{ event|lookup:'Reward type' }} 

  • {{ event|lookup:'Coupon code' }} 

  • {{ event|lookup:'Coupon expiry date' }} 

  • {{ event|lookup:'Reward amount' }}



3. Again, below is a raw sample of the event variables of the selected profile. You can use this to send a dedicated email to your advocates, notifying them of the exact reward they earned (through a Klaviyo flow). 


Note: Event variables vary depending on which reward type is currently selected for your referral program, all those available to you should be available when you preview a profile (as seen listed in the screenshot above)

Purchase referred by profile made ineligible (reward disqualified email)


ReferralCandy also sends an event to Klaviyo each time we detect you have disqualified a referral. We suggest utilizing this event by sending a "reward disqualified" notification email to your advocate through Klaviyo.


1. Create a new flow with this trigger event: RC - Purchase referred by profile made ineligible (This can be found under "Metric")



2. In the email editor, you can utilize the following "Event Variables" that are sent together with the event:

  • {{ event|lookup:'Campaign name' }}

  • {{ event.Reason }}



3. Please see the raw example below, utilizing this event coupled with the event variables and custom properties you can build a triggered email flow that notifies the advocate (via Klaviyo) when any of their referrals have been disqualified.

We are sorry to let you know a recent purchase made by someone you referred has been disqualified for the following reason:

Unfortunately that means it no longer counts towards a referral reward.
