Advocates & affiliates: How to customize your unique referral link

Advocates and affiliates can edit the username part of their referral link from the portal dashboard's Customize option.

Your unique referral link is what you share with friends so your referrals get counted. You can customize its ending — the username part — from your advocate or affiliate portal. This article explains what the link is made of and how to change it.

What is a unique referral link?

A referral link is a link that all advocates get when they are enrolled in a campaign. By default, the referral link is personalized based on either your first and last name, or the first part of your email address.

For example, if the name and email address you used were John Smith and spacemarine1337@gmail.com, your default unique referral link will likely be: yourstore.refr.cc/campaign/u/johnsmith.

Why customize your referral link?

There are many reasons why you'd want to customize your unique referral link:

  • You don't want to expose your first and/or last name when sharing your unique referral link publicly.

  • You purchased under a different name and would like to correct it.

Customizing your referral link

You change your referral link from your portal's rewards dashboard:

Note: the following steps must be completed by the advocate or affiliate. Merchants can share these instructions when assisting customers.

  1. Sign in to your rewards dashboard. Open your portal (click the link in the store's welcome email, or enter your enrolled email on the program's join page) and request a sign-in link. See How to sign in to the portal if you need help getting in.

  2. Next to Your Referral Link, click Customize.

  3. Edit the last part of your link. Only the username part can be changed — in yourstore.refr.cc/campaign/u/johnsmith, only "johnsmith" is editable. A preview shows your new link as you type.

  4. Click Save.

Heads up: your current link stops working once you change it — the portal shows this warning before you save. Any link you already shared (in posts, DMs, or print) becomes a dead end for new referrals, so pick a username you're happy keeping.

Note: some merchants enable anonymous referral links by default. When that setting is on, new advocates and affiliates receive a randomized username instead of a name-based one. If you see a randomize option when changing your link, you can use it to generate a different username.

Seeing the older Rewards page instead? Some stores' programs still use the previous portal pages — there, the same option is the Change link button near the bottom of the Rewards page, followed by Update Link.
