What your referral program’s unique subdomain is
A referral link is a special link given to each advocate once they meet your segment criteria and are enrolled in one of your campaigns. ReferralCandy generates unique, campaign-specific referral links for every advocate, which they can share with friends from their share page or your widgets. With unique links, ReferralCandy can track when advocates share and when friends make a purchase.
A unique referral link looks like this: https://yourstore.refr.cc/campaign/u/alice.
First part – your program’s unique subdomain
https://yourstore.refr.cc/
This is derived from your account’s Store URL. The subdomain (yourstore) is the part you can edit.Second part – campaign URL
campaign
This is the campaign identifier in the URL for the specific referral campaign the customer is enrolled in. You choose this value in the Campaign URL field when you create or edit a referral campaign.Last part – advocate’s username
u/alice
This is your advocate’s username. The advocate can update this from their Rewards / advocate portal at any time.
Customizing the subdomain of the referral link
Go to your Store details page:
From the ReferralCandy dashboard, go to My Store > Store Details.
From your Shopify admin, go to Accounts > Store details > Domains.
In the Referral program unique subdomain field, enter the subdomain you want to use.
Save the changes.
Important: Changing your subdomain mid-campaign renders all previously set referral links invalid. New links will use the new subdomain, but any links that were already shared with the old subdomain will stop working.
We highly recommend that you set this once when you first set up your ReferralCandy account and avoid changing it while a campaign is live.
FAQ: Can I change the personalized part of my customer’s referral link?
FAQ: Can I change the personalized part of my customer’s referral link?
For example, my advocate Alice Smith has this referral link:
https://yourstore.refr.cc/campaign/u/alices
The alices part is the personalized ending of the link. By default, ReferralCandy generates this from the advocate’s name when they are first created (for example, when they make a purchase or sign up). We typically use their full first name plus the first initial of their last name – so Alice Smith becomes alices.
As a merchant, there isn’t a way to edit that personalized ending (alices) from your ReferralCandy dashboard. However, your advocates can update it themselves from their advocate portal.
A few things to keep in mind:
The last part of the link (for example,
alices) is your advocate’s personalized username drawn from their first and last name at the time their advocate profile is created. This username does not automatically change if you later edit the customer’s name in Shopify or in your ReferralCandy contacts.
Only the advocate or affiliate can change this username from their Rewards / advocate portal.
If an advocate doesn’t want their last name (or initial) to appear in the link, you can send them this guide so they can update it on their side:
