Integration: Using ReferralCandy with Gorgias

Connect Gorgias to ReferralCandy so your support agents see each customer's advocate status, referrals, and rewards on their tickets.

Written by Adam

Gorgias is a helpdesk platform built for ecommerce brands. Connecting Gorgias to ReferralCandy adds a ReferralCandy card to the ticket sidebar in Gorgias, so your support agents can see a customer's referral details — advocate status, referrals, rewards, and coupon codes — right on the ticket, without leaving Gorgias or signing in to ReferralCandy.

With the Gorgias integration, your agents can answer the most common referral-program questions on the first reply:

  • "Where's my reward?" — the reward, its status, and the coupon code are on the ticket.

  • "Is my coupon still valid?" — the coupon code is on the ticket, ready to check against your store.

  • "Did my referral count?" — the advocate's number of successful referrals is on the ticket.

  • "What's my referral link?" — the advocate's share link is on the ticket. It opens their Share Page, where they can copy and share their referral link.

The Gorgias integration works whichever platform your store runs on, and it is read-only: apart from adding the ReferralCandy card to your helpdesk, it never changes your Gorgias tickets or customers, and it never changes anything in ReferralCandy. To make a change, an agent with ReferralCandy access can open the customer's profile straight from the card.

Note: The Gorgias integration is rolling out gradually. If you don't see Gorgias on your Integrations page yet, let us know and we can check where the rollout stands for your account.

Before you start

To set up the Gorgias integration, you'll need:

  • A Gorgias account where you are an admin — installing apps in Gorgias requires admin permissions.

  • Your Gorgias subdomain — the first part of your helpdesk URL. If your helpdesk is acme.gorgias.com, your subdomain is acme.

Connecting Gorgias to ReferralCandy

You connect Gorgias from the Integrations page in ReferralCandy — the whole setup takes a couple of minutes.

  1. Go to your IntegrationsGorgias page:

    • From the ReferralCandy dashboard (my.referralcandy.com), go to Integrations and open Gorgias.

    • From your Shopify admin, open the ReferralCandy app, go to Integrations, and open Gorgias.

  2. Enter your Gorgias subdomain — just the first part of your helpdesk URL, for example acme for acme.gorgias.com.

  3. Click Connect. You'll be taken to Gorgias.

  4. Review the permissions Gorgias asks you to grant, then click Authorize.

  5. You're returned to ReferralCandy, and the Status section now shows Connected with your helpdesk address.

That's it — ReferralCandy creates the ticket-sidebar widget in your Gorgias helpdesk for you. There is no widget to set up manually in Gorgias, and no API keys or code to add.

What your agents see in Gorgias

Once Gorgias is connected, a ReferralCandy card appears in the right-hand ticket sidebar in Gorgias, below the customer details, whenever the ticket customer's email address matches a contact in your ReferralCandy account. The card is grouped into sections:

  • Advocate — for customers enrolled in your referral or affiliate program: their name, the campaign they're in, their number of successful referrals, and their share link (the link to their Share Page). This answers "Did my referral count?" and "What's my referral link?".

  • Reward — the reward the advocate has earned, its status (for example, Delivered), and the coupon code. This answers "Where's my reward?", and gives your agent the coupon code to check against your store.

  • Referred by — for customers who were referred to your store: who referred them and the current status of that referral, so your agent can see whether the referral was detected and where it stands.

  • Open in ReferralCandy — a View profile link that opens the customer's full record in your ReferralCandy dashboard, for anything the card doesn't cover.

If the ticket customer isn't in your ReferralCandy account, the ReferralCandy card stays hidden, so unrelated tickets aren't cluttered.

To confirm the Gorgias integration is working, open a ticket in Gorgias from a customer who exists in ReferralCandy — the ReferralCandy card should appear in the ticket sidebar with that customer's details.

Disconnecting Gorgias

  1. In ReferralCandy, go to your IntegrationsGorgias page.

  2. Click Disconnect Gorgias.

After disconnecting the Gorgias integration, ReferralCandy removes its widget from your Gorgias helpdesk and revokes the connection's access to your Gorgias account. Nothing changes in your ReferralCandy account — your advocates, referrals, and rewards stay as they are. You can reconnect at any time by following the steps above.

Gorgias integration FAQ & troubleshooting

Common questions about the Gorgias integration:

Why doesn't the ReferralCandy card appear on a ticket?

The ReferralCandy card only appears in Gorgias when the ticket customer's email address matches a contact in your ReferralCandy account. If the card is missing, check that the customer exists in ReferralCandy (under Contacts) with the same email address the ticket uses, then reopen the ticket — the card loads when the ticket view opens. If the customer isn't in ReferralCandy at all, the card staying hidden is expected.

The connection to Gorgias failed during setup. What should I check?

If connecting to Gorgias fails during setup, first check the subdomain you entered: it should be only the first part of your helpdesk URL (for example acme), not acme.gorgias.com or the full address. Make sure you're signed in to Gorgias as an admin in the same browser, then click Connect again. If it still won't connect, let us know which subdomain you're using and we can take a look.

The ReferralCandy card shows outdated information.

The ReferralCandy card fetches fresh data from ReferralCandy each time a ticket is opened, so reopening the ticket refreshes it. If the details still look wrong, check the customer's record in your ReferralCandy dashboard — the View profile link on the card takes you straight there. If it still doesn't look right, let us know.

I disconnected Gorgias, but the ReferralCandy widget still shows in my helpdesk.

Disconnecting the Gorgias integration removes the ReferralCandy widget from your Gorgias helpdesk, but occasionally the removal is delayed on the Gorgias side. You can remove the widget yourself in your Gorgias settings under Widgets, or let us know and we'll take care of it.

Can my agents change a reward or referral from Gorgias?

No — the Gorgias integration is read-only. Agents can see a customer's advocate details, referrals, and rewards on the ticket, but changes are made in your ReferralCandy dashboard: someone with ReferralCandy access opens the customer's record there (the View profile link on the card goes straight to it) and makes the change.

What data does the Gorgias integration share?

When a ticket opens, Gorgias sends only the ticket customer's email address to ReferralCandy, and ReferralCandy returns that customer's referral details (advocate status, referrals, rewards, and coupon codes) over an authenticated, encrypted connection unique to your account. ReferralCandy does not read your ticket contents and does not store any Gorgias ticket data. Disconnecting the Gorgias integration revokes its access immediately.
