Integration: Tremendous

Connect Tremendous to send cash rewards through a flexible reward-claim experience, with direct funding options that can pay out faster.

Written by Adam

What this integration does

With Tremendous connected, you can use Tremendous as the cash payout method for your ReferralCandy campaigns. This changes how advocates/affiliates receive cash rewards:

  • Advocates/affiliates receive a Tremendous reward email and claim their reward through Tremendous.

  • You can control what reward options are offered — for example, Amazon gift cards, Visa prepaid cards, or other options supported by Tremendous — by configuring your Tremendous campaign template.

  • You choose how rewards are funded — from your Tremendous account balance, a bank account, a credit card, or by invoice — which can affect payout timing.

Watch out: This article is about cash rewards paid via Tremendous. If you’re using PayPal cash payouts, see Advocate Reward: Cash.

Before you start

Before you start, check these three things:

  1. You must have (or create) a Tremendous account. New Tremendous accounts also need to be approved by Tremendous before payouts can go out — until then the account shows as Pending Approval and reward submissions are held (see Troubleshooting).

  2. Decide how you want Tremendous rewards to be funded (you’ll select this during setup).

  3. If you want different branding or reward options per campaign/tier, plan to create separate Tremendous “campaign templates” (you can reuse templates across tiers if you want them to behave the same way).

Step 1: Connect Tremendous to ReferralCandy

  1. Open your ReferralCandy dashboard (on Shopify: Apps → ReferralCandy in Shopify admin; on other platforms: log in at my.referralcandy.com).

  2. Go to Integrations.

  3. Select Tremendous.

  4. Click Connect Tremendous. You're taken to Tremendous to sign in and approve ReferralCandy's access, then returned to ReferralCandy.

After connecting, the Tremendous integration page shows your Tremendous organization name and a Connected status. If your Tremendous account is new, you may also see a Pending Approval badge — you can finish the setup below, but payouts only start going out once Tremendous approves the account.

Step 2: Choose your Tremendous funding source

On the Tremendous integration page in ReferralCandy, choose the funding source you want Tremendous to use for payouts. The options come from your Tremendous account and include:

  • Account balance: Rewards are funded from pre-loaded funds in your Tremendous account. This is the best option if you want rewards to be paid without waiting for a billing step.

  • Bank account or credit card: Rewards are charged to the payment method on your Tremendous account.

  • Invoice: Rewards are funded through an invoiced billing step — “bill first, then pay out” — so rewards may not be delivered until the invoice is settled.

For balance-funded accounts, the integration page shows your current balance (available and pending amounts). If the balance runs low, add funds in the Tremendous dashboard — ReferralCandy links you there.

Tip: If your goal is “faster payouts after the review period,” fund from your account balance. If your goal is “keep payouts aligned to an invoiced schedule,” Invoice is the closer match.

Exact payout timing depends on your funding setup — see When will referral rewards be sent to an advocate? for the full payout-timing breakdown.

Step 3: Enable Tremendous as the cash payout method in your campaigns

You can use Tremendous for both referral campaigns and affiliate campaigns, on all platforms.

Affiliate campaigns

  1. In ReferralCandy, go to Affiliate campaigns.

  2. Open the campaign you want to edit.

  3. Go to Affiliate reward (or reward settings for that campaign).

  4. Select Cash as the reward type.

  5. Under Cash payout method, select Tremendous.

Referral campaigns

  1. In ReferralCandy, go to Referral campaigns.

  2. Open the campaign you want to edit.

  3. Go to Advocate reward in the Set rewards section.

  4. Make sure the reward tier's reward type is Cash.

  5. Open the Cash payout method section (below the tier list) and select Tremendous.

Note: The Tremendous option stays grayed out with a “Connect Tremendous in Integrations to enable” link until the integration is ready — connected, approved by Tremendous, and with a funding source selected. Also, the payout method can’t be changed while payouts are pending — ReferralCandy blocks the switch until pending payouts resolve.

What happens next: Once Tremendous is selected, you’ll be able to choose a Tremendous campaign template for that campaign (or per tier, if you’re using tiers).

Step 4: Choose (or create) a Tremendous campaign template

When Tremendous is selected as the payout method, you’ll see a Tremendous campaign template dropdown.

  1. Pick an existing template if you want to reuse the same reward options/branding.

  2. Or create/edit a template in Tremendous, then come back and select it.

ReferralCandy links you directly to Tremendous to create or edit templates. If you don’t have any templates in Tremendous yet, you’ll need to create one before Tremendous can be used for the campaign.

What the template controls:

  • What reward options recipients can choose from (depending on their country/availability)

  • The reward email content (sender name, subject, message, branding)

  • The reward claim page content (headline, message, branding)

Paying rewards in your local currency

With Tremendous (or Manual CSV) as the payout method, you can pay rewards in your local currency instead of USD. When you configure a cash reward on a tier, a Payout currency dropdown appears below the cash amount field — it defaults to your shop currency, and each tier can have its own currency. If you promise £10, your advocate or affiliate receives exactly £10 — the Tremendous reward email shows the exact currency and amount you configured.

  • You don’t need to fund Tremendous in each currency: Tremendous accounts are always funded in USD, and Tremendous automatically converts to the payout currency at the current exchange rate with no conversion fees.

  • Changing a tier’s currency affects future payouts only — rewards already earned keep their original currency. The number itself doesn’t convert (switching $10 from USD to GBP means £10, not the exchange-rate equivalent), so update the amount if needed.

  • Payout currency selection isn’t available for PayPal payouts.

How Tremendous cash payouts work (end-to-end)

  1. A referred purchase becomes rewardable based on your campaign rules.

  2. The purchase enters the review period (if you’ve set one).

  3. After the review period ends (and the referral remains eligible), the cash reward becomes due.

  4. ReferralCandy submits the reward to Tremendous (due rewards are batched and submitted roughly every 15 minutes).

  5. The advocate/affiliate receives a Tremendous reward email and redeems the reward through Tremendous.

Note: When a payout shows as Successful in ReferralCandy, it means the Tremendous reward email was delivered to the advocate or affiliate — not that they’ve claimed the funds. Tremendous doesn’t report a “redeemed” status back to ReferralCandy.

Payout timing depends on funding:

  • If you fund via Balance, payouts can usually be initiated without waiting for an invoiced billing cycle.

  • If you fund via Invoice, payout initiation may wait until the invoiced funding step is successfully settled.

What advocates and affiliates will see

When Tremendous is enabled:

  • They receive a reward email associated with the Tremendous template you selected.

  • They click through to a Tremendous claim page.

  • They select their preferred reward option from what you made available in the template (availability can vary by recipient country and Tremendous support).

Tip: If an advocate says “I didn’t get paid,” confirm whether you're using Tremendous or PayPal—because the email sender/claim flow will be different.

Troubleshooting

I connected Tremendous, but I can’t select it in my campaign

The Tremendous option stays disabled until the integration is fully ready. Check these in order:

  • Confirm Tremendous shows as Connected in ReferralCandy > Integrations.

  • Confirm your Tremendous account has been approved by Tremendous — a Pending Approval or rejected account can’t be selected. ReferralCandy checks daily and emails you once approval comes through.

  • Confirm you’ve selected a funding source on the integration page.

  • Confirm you have at least one campaign template in Tremendous.

  • Refresh the page after connecting, then reopen the campaign reward settings.

Rewards are not sending (or are delayed)

Check these in order:

  1. Confirm the referral is actually rewardable and has passed the review period (if applicable).

  2. Confirm your Tremendous funding source:

    • If funding from your account balance, confirm the balance is sufficient. When the balance can’t cover a payout, the payout fails and ReferralCandy emails you the amount needed — failed payouts are submitted again after you top up.

    • If using Invoice, confirm the invoiced funding step is settled in your setup.

  3. If your Tremendous account is still Pending Approval, submissions are held — ReferralCandy retries them for up to 7 days, so rewards go out once Tremendous approves the account within that window.

  4. Confirm you selected a Tremendous campaign template for the campaign/tier you’re testing.

  5. Have the advocate check spam/promotions and search their inbox for “Tremendous” and your store name.

Tip: If you recently switched payout method (PayPal → Tremendous), make sure you’re testing a new reward event after the change, and that the correct campaign/tier is using Tremendous.

The advocate can’t redeem the reward option they want

  • Reward availability can vary by country and by what you enabled in the Tremendous campaign template.

  • Update your Tremendous campaign template product selection and try again.
