Unsubscribe vs delete: what’s the difference?
Unsubscribe
Stops the contact (advocate/affiliate) from receiving ReferralCandy campaign emails. It doesn’t remove the contact from your Shopify customer list.
Whether a contact is subscribed or unsubscribed has no bearing on whether they can participate in your referral or affiliate program. If you wish to stop an enrolled advocate from referring and earning rewards, read How to ban a contact.
Delete
Deletes the customer profile from Shopify. Since ReferralCandy contacts are synced with your Shopify Customers page, deleting the Shopify customer also removes the synced ReferralCandy contact.
Subscribe/Unsubscribe contacts
Account level
Because your ReferralCandy contacts are synced with your Shopify customers list, you can remove contacts from your subscribers list by following Shopify’s instructions. This unsubscribes the contacts from all marketing emails sent by your store, not just ReferralCandy emails.
Campaign level
To unsubscribe a contact (or multiple contacts) from receiving campaign emails:
From your Shopify admin, go to ReferralCandy → Campaigns → select your campaign. In the Get started section, click Advocates.
Check the contact(s) you want to unsubscribe.
Click Unsubscribe.
A popup appears. Click Confirm to proceed.
To resubscribe a contact, repeat the steps above and click Subscribe.
Subscribed vs. unsubscribed
The table below highlights which emails your customers receive depending on whether they are subscribed or unsubscribed from receiving campaign emails.
Only customers who are enrolled in your campaign receive the referral emails listed below. Unenrolled advocates may also receive account-related emails.

How can my contacts unsubscribe from receiving campaign emails?
Contacts, advocates, and affiliates can unsubscribe from receiving referral or affiliate program emails through the following:
Contact ReferralCandy or the merchant directly to request to opt out of receiving referral or affiliate campaign emails
Click Unsubscribe at the bottom of the campaign email the customer received, which redirects them to a page where they can manage their email marketing preferences
Delete a contact (Shopify Customers)
If you want to remove a contact entirely, you’ll need to delete the customer in Shopify. Since ReferralCandy contacts are synced with Shopify Customers, deleting the Shopify customer also removes them from your ReferralCandy contacts list.
Important:
This deletes the customer from Shopify, not only from ReferralCandy.
Deleting a customer profile can’t be undone.
Shopify may prevent deletion in some cases (for example, if the customer is associated with orders/subscriptions).
Steps (desktop)
From your Shopify admin, go to Customers.
Click the customer you want to delete.
Click More actions → Delete customer.
Confirm by clicking Delete customer.
